Henry W. Sackett Scholarship
Two scholarships, established from the Sackett Law School Endowment Fund, are awarded at the discretion of the faculty.
Saint Lawrence University – Cornell Law School Scholarship
An anonymous donor endowed the St. Lawrence University – Cornell Law School Scholarship in 2016. The SLU – CLS Scholarship gives preference for J.D. candidates with superior academic credentials who hold an undergraduate degree from St. Lawrence University. The SLU-CLS Scholarship is intended to encourage SLU graduates to apply to Cornell Law School; provide support for students from upstate New York; and support students from families with modest financial resources. Awarded at the discretion of the dean.
Alfred M. Saperston Student Aid Fund
Established in honor of Alfred M. Saperston, LL.B. 1919, by members of his immediate family, to be used for scholarships for law students under the supervision and at the discretion of the dean.
Saperston and Day Scholarship
Established in memory of Alfred M. Saperston, LL.B. 1919, by his law firm. The scholarship is awarded annually on the basis of merit, at the discretion of the dean. Preference is given to second-year students from western New York.
Judge Nathan A. Schatz Emergency Loan Fund
Established in memory of Judge Nathan A. Schatz, LL.B. 1915, by members of his immediate family, to be used for emergency loans for law students under the supervision and at the discretion of the dean.
Rudolf B. Schlesinger Fellowship
Established in honor of Rudolf B. Schlesinger, the William Nelson Cromwell Professor of International and Comparative Law, by gifts from alumni, faculty members, and friends. The fellowship is awarded annually as a tuition-assistance grant to a foreign LL.M. candidate or a J.D. candidate pursuing a course of study at Cornell Law School related mainly to international and comparative law.
Norma and Stewart J. Schwab Scholarship
Established by the membership of the Law School Dean’s Advisory Council and gifts from other alumni of Cornell Law School, the Norma and Stewart J. Schwab Scholarship honors the decade of service given to the Law School by Norma and Stewart Schwab during the deanship of the latter and recognizes its accomplishments. The Schwab Scholarship is awarded annually at the discretion of the Allan R. Tessler Dean to a J.D. candidate of demonstrated academic merit. Preference is given to a student who is a parent.
David J. and Marilyn A. Scott Law Scholarship
The David J. and Marilyn A. Scott Law Scholarship, established in 2013 by David J. Scott J.D.’78 and spouse Marilyn A. Scott, provides financial assistance to a student enrolled in the J.D. program, with preference given to a student who is a resident of New York State. The Scott Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the dean.
Serafini Family Scholarship
Established in 2001 by Joseph L. Serafini, J.D. 1967, and Nancy S. Serafini in memory of their fathers, Joseph Serafini and Sheldon Siegel. The scholarship is awarded annually on the basis of financial need and academic merit at the discretion of the dean. Preference will be given to students holding an undergraduate degree from Princeton or the United States Military Academy.
Judge Harold E. Simpson Memorial Scholarship
Established by the family and friends of Judge Harold E. Simpson, LL.B. 1921. The scholarship is awarded annually at the discretion of the dean.
Doris M. Sims Scholarship Fund
Established from the estate of Doris M. Sims, LL.B. 1923. The scholarship is awarded annually on the basis of merit, at the discretion of the dean.
Dean’s Scholarship endowed by Arthur M. and Mary Ann Siskind
Endowed in 2000 by Arthur M. Siskind, A.B. 1960, J.D. 1962, and Mary Ann Siskind. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit, with preference given to students with a Cornell undergraduate degree. Each recipient will retain the scholarship for the three years of his or her legal education at Cornell.
Sam Spiegel Law Scholarship Fund
Established by the Spiegel Foundation and awarded at the discretion of the dean, this fund provides assistance to a student on the basis of academic merit and overall potential contribution to the Law School community. Preference is given to those demonstrating an interest in media and entertainment law and, in particular, motion pictures.
Beatrice Steiner Scholarship
Established from the estate of Beatrice Steiner to award scholarship assistance to law students at the discretion of the dean.
Eva Howe Stevens Scholarship
Established by the Board of Trustees and augmented by a gift from Eva Howe Stevens, this scholarship is awarded to a law student on the basis of financial need and scholarship. The scholarship honors Mrs. Stevens, widow of the late Dean Robert S. Stevens, for her generous, extensive, and continuous support of the Law School.
Charles Thorp Stewart Scholarship Fund
Established by Charles Evan Stewart, A.B. 1974, J.D. 1977, in honor of his father, Charles Thorp Stewart, A.B. 1940. The scholarship is awarded annually, at the discretion of the dean, to a second- or third-year student who has best combined academic excellence and extracurricular achievement.
Barbara A. and Milton G. Strom Scholarship
Established in 2000 by Milton G. Strom, J.D. 1967, and Barbara A. Strom. The scholarship is awarded annually on the basis of financial need and academic merit at the discretion of the dean.
Blaine F. Sturgis Scholarship
Established through a bequest from the estate of Mrs. Florence E. Sturgis in memory of her husband, Blaine F. Sturgis, LL.B. 1907. The scholarship is awarded annually to law students on the basis of need.
Robert S. Summers Scholarship
This endowed scholarship in honor of longtime Cornell Law professor Robert Summers was established by the late Daniel J. Wagner, J.D. 1983, in 2018 in honor of his 35th Law School Reunion. It provides financial support to a Law student who self-identifies as a member of an underrepresented minority group, and is awarded at the discretion of the Allan R. Tessler Dean.
Robert D. Taisey J.D. 1953 Law Scholarship
Established in 2000 through gifts from Robert D. Taisey J.D. 1953. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of need and merit at the discretion of the dean.
Tashlik Family Scholarship Fund
Established by Theodore W. Tashlik, LL.B. 1964. The scholarship is awarded annually to a second- or third-year student on the basis of merit and need, with preference given to a student who has demonstrated an interest in public-service law, at the discretion of the dean.
Felice Rose Dixon Taylor Scholarship
Established from the estate of William C. Taylor, B.C.E. 1948, in memory of his mother, Felice Rose Dixon Taylor. The award is made annually to benefit female law students, at the discretion of the dean.
Lee E. Teitelbaum Scholarship
Established in 2003 by alumni, colleagues, and close friends, this scholarship honors former dean Lee. E. Teitelbaum for his service and contributions to the Cornell Law School as a teacher, legal scholar, and as the school’s dean. The scholarship is awarded annually on the basis of financial need and merit at the discretion of the dean.
Tessler Student Aid Fund
Established by a gift from Allan R. Tessler, A.B. 1958, J.D. 1963, and his wife, Frances Goudsmit Tessler, A.B. 1959, to provide assistance to deserving and needy law students. The fund may be used either for loans or for scholarships, at the discretion of the dean.
Gerard Thomas LL.B. ’51 Memorial Law Scholarship
Endowed by Margary H. Thomas in honor and memory of her husband, the Gerard Thomas LL.B. ’51 Memorial Law Scholarship is awarded annually at the discretion of the dean to a student of academic merit and character equal to the standard set by Gerard Thomas. Mr. Thomas was general counsel and vice-president of the Upjohn Company and gained lasting recognition for his victory in the U.S. Supreme Court case of Upjohn Co., et al. v. United States, et al., which expanded the scope of corporate attorney-client privilege and work-product immunity. Gerard Thomas earned lasting respect for a lifetime of public service, most notably for his leadership as school board president during the desegregation of the public schools in Kalamazoo, Michigan, of which he was along-time resident.
Professor George Jarvis Thompson Memorial Scholarship
Established by a bequest of Margery T. and Leonard C. Thompson in honor and memory of George Jarvis Thompson, Professor of Law at Cornell Law School and teacher of Procedure, Contracts, and Business Regulation. Professor Thompson taught Anglo-American Law at Peiyang University, now Tianjin University, in Tianjin China from 1914 to 1917, and was active in the Cornell-in-China program. The Thompson Memorial Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the Allan R. Tessler Dean.
Professor Gray Thoron Scholarship
Endowed by Edward vK. Cunningham, A.B. 1956, LL.B. 1962, and Jean Cunningham in honor of Professor Emeritus Thoron. The scholarship is awarded annually on the basis of financial need, with preference given to students holding a Cornell undergraduate degree.
Tudor Foundation Student Loan Fund
Established at the Law School in 1979 by the Tudor Foundation, to be used to help needy and deserving law students.
Mynderse Van Cleef Scholarship
Awarded at the discretion of the faculty.
John James Van Nostrand Scholarships
Two scholarships, available to students after the first year, are awarded on the basis of need, character, and scholarship.
Ambassador William J. vanden Heuvel Law Scholarship
Ambassador William J. vanden Heuvel, Esq., A.B. ’50 J.D. ’52 established the endowment fund for this scholarship in 2011. Ambassador vanden Heuvel served as the United States Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, and as the United States Permanent Representative in Geneva, Switzerland. This scholarship is awarded to an LL.M. or J.S.D. candidate at Cornell Law School from a country of Eastern Europe, with preference given to a student from Romania.
Bartholomew Viviano Scholarship
Established by friends and classmates in memory of Bartholomew Viviano, M.E. 1933, J.D. 1936. The award is made annually to a law student at the discretion of the dean.
Jay W. and Harriet S. Waks Scholarship
Established by Jay W. Waks, B.S. 1968, J.D. 1971, and Harriet S. Waks in memory of their parents. The scholarship is awarded annually to a law student, on the basis of financial need, at the discretion of the dean. Preference is given to those with an interest in employment and labor law and who best exemplify the qualities of fair play, scholarship, good humor and commitment to community.
Theodore E. Warren LL.B. 1921 and G. Douglas Crozier LL.B. 1926 Scholarship
This scholarship, named for Cornell Law School alumni Theodore E. Warren LL.B. 1921 and G. Douglas Crozier LL.B. 1926, is a gift of E. Terry Warren A.B. 1952 J.D. 1956 and Dorothy Crozier Warren A.B. 1952, who honor their fathers’ distinguished careers in the law and service to the legal profession, and remember them with admiration and love. The Warren-Crozier Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the Allan R. Tessler Dean.
Clifford R. Weidberg Scholarship
Clifford R. Weidberg, J.D. 1972, provides a scholarship for a student with need who has excelled in extracurricular activities and service to an undergraduate institution. Preference is given to students from Long Island.
Steven and Sharon Weinberg Scholarship
Established in 2001 with gifts from Steven K. Weinberg, B.S. 1968, M.B.A. 1970, J.D. 1971, and Sharon Lawner Weinberg, A.B. 1968, Ph.D. 1971, in memory of Rudolf B. Schlesinger, the William Nelson Cromwell Professor of International and Comparative Law. The scholarship is awarded annually on the basis of financial need and academic merit, at the discretion of the dean.
Joseph Weintraub Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established by New Jersey lawyers and jurists in honor of Judge Joseph Weintraub, A.B. 1928, LL.B. 1930, who made a substantial contribution to our jurisprudence. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of need and merit. Preference is given to students who are New Jersey residents.
Dean’s Scholarship endowed by Lee I. and Teresa V-F Weintraub
Endowed in 2001 by Lee I. Weintraub, J.D. 1970, and his wife, Teresa V-F Weintraub. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit to deserving students, at the discretion of the dean. Dean’s Scholarship endowed by Caren and Roger Weiss
Established in 2001 with gifts from Caren and Roger J. Weiss, A.B. 1961, J.D. 1964. The scholarship is established in memory of Milton Weiss, A.B. 1923, J.D. 1925 and his roommate Duncan J. Stewart, A.B. 1961, J.D. 1964, and in honor of Stephen H. Weiss, A.B. 1957. It is awarded annually on the basis of financial need and academic merit at the discretion of the dean. Preference will be given to students with a Cornell undergraduate degree. Each recipient will retain the scholarship for the three years or his or her legal education at Cornell.
Milton and Nathalie Weiss Scholarships
Established in honor of Milton Weiss, A.B. 1923, LL.B. 1925, and Nathalie Weiss by their son, Stephen H. Weiss, A.B. 1957. Preference is given to entering law students who were outstanding Cornell undergraduates.
Hon. Christy C. Wiegand JD’00 Government Service Scholarship
Established in 2021, the Hon. Christy C. Wiegand JD’00 Government Service Scholarship is awarded annually to a 2L or 3L student who pursues government service legal work during law school, with aspirations to continue doing so post-graduation. Judge Wiegand credits her meaningful experience at Cornell Law School as the springboard for her career. With this scholarship, Judge Wiegand and her husband, John F. (Jay) Hammond JD ’00, hope to reduce the amount of student debt that scholarship recipients will be obliged to repay following graduation from Cornell Law School, making government service a more reasonable financial choice. In addition, Christy and Jay intend the Scholarship to encourage Cornell Law students to reflect on the variety of post-graduation paths open to them by highlighting Judge Wiegand’s experience as an example of a meaningful and fulling career in government service.
Donald A. Winslow Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Donald A. Winslow, M.B.A. 1979, J.D. 1980. The scholarship is awarded to the second- or third-year law student who performs with the greatest distinction in writing, at the discretion of the dean.
Michael and Ellen Wolfson Scholarship
Established in 2002 with gifts from Michael I. Wolfson, B.Ch.E. 1964, LL.B. 1967 and Ellen N. Wolfson, M.D., in appreciation of the Cornell Law School. The scholarship is awarded annually on the basis of financial need at the discretion of the dean. Preference will be given to students with a Cornell undergraduate degree in engineering or science, and/or those with an interest in patent law.
Women’s Law Alumni Mentoring Scholarship
Established by the Cornell Law School alumnae in support of the goals of the Women’s Mentor Program. The scholarship is awarded annually to needy and deserving female students, at the discretion of the dean.
Franklin S. Wood Memorial Scholarship
Established from the estate of Franklin S. Wood, A.B. 1923, LL.B. 1925. The scholarship is awarded annually at the discretion of the dean.
Mary F. Zoller Scholarship Fund
Established from the estate of Mary F. Zoller, LL.B. 1946. Income from the scholarship fund is awarded to deserving law students, at the discretion of the dean.
