Back to Class CLE Program – “Legal Information and Disinformation: Untangling the Web”

The internet can be a tangled web of misinformation and even disinformation, so how can attorneys capitalize on this powerful and essential tool, while still ensuring accuracy and providing the best legal advice to their clients? Join Kim Nayyer, Edward Cornell Law Librarian, Associate Dean for Library Services, and Professor of the Practice as she breaks down the basics of online legal research, the world of big data, and ways to discern disinformation from reliable legal information.

Attendees will receive 1.0 NY CLE credit in the area of Skills. Attorneys who practice outside New York may be eligible for reciprocal CLE credit. This program is appropriate for both transitional and non-transitional attorneys.

The Cornell Law School Women’s Law Coalition will take those items off your hands. Law students are always in need of professional attire for interviews and will put your clothing to very good use. You will not only be caring for a law student in a way you’ve never imagined, but you’ll be creating space in your suitcase to take home some Cornell Store purchases.

Did the regulatory reforms of the last decade withstand, and if not, where are the shortfalls and how can we better prepare for the next crisis? Join Saule Omarova, Beth and Marc Goldberg Professor of Law, Cornell Law School, as she leads a causal discussion and engages viewpoints from the audience.

Back to Class CLE Program – “How You Can Help Ukrainian, Afghan, and Other Refugees”

Do you wonder how Ukrainians, Afghans, and other displaced people get to the United States? Interested in doing a pro bono case for an asylum applicant? Come to this informative one-hour CLE with Professor Stephen Yale-Loehr, AB ’77, JD ’81, Professor of Immigration Law Practice at Cornell Law School and Amy Godshall, JD Candidate 2023, Cornell Law School. Professor Yale-Loehr and Amy will provide an overview of U.S. immigration law and policy and then teach you how to do a pro bono case for an asylum seeker.

The 2020 presidential and congressional election was the most expensive election in American history, shattering previous fundraising and spending records, totaling an estimated $14 billion, which was more than double the amount spent during the 2016 cycle. What is the forecasted spending for 2022 and beyond, and how does this significant financing shape our elected officials’ behavior? Join Michael E. Toner, JD ’92, former Chairman of the Federal Election Commission and Partner, Wiley, and Jens David Ohlin, Allan R. Tessler and Professor of Law, Cornell Law School as they discuss the influence of big money on U.S. elections.

All-Class Celebration and Buffet Dinner with New York Dueling Pianos

Join us for this final gathering under the tent. Not a stuffy sit-down format, but an opportunity to mingle and visit with friends. Buffet stations open at 6:00 PM and the New York Dueling Pianos begin at 7:00 PM. This comedy-based dueling piano show is a fun, high-energy party-in-a-box! Two pianists sing and play everything from Jimmy Buffet, Garth Brooks, Maroon 5, Billy Joel, Tom Petty, Jerry Lee Lewis, to Disney, Bruno Mars, Elvis, Madonna, Ed Sheeran, Metallica, and just about anything else. But most importantly, the show is all about the audience. It’s a clap-along, sing-along, crazy fiesta with roasts, drinking songs, toasts, and hi-octane comedy.
