Cornell Law School’s commitment to diversity goes back to its founding vision to become a school that would provide the highest-quality education to anyone, regardless of sex or color. Its very first graduating classes included women, African-Americans (including George Washington Fields, who had been born a slave), and students who traveled to Ithaca all the way from Japan in the 1880s to study at Cornell Law.

Cornell Law School seeks to continue its commitment to diversity and inclusion by supporting alumni networks that provide channels through which alumni and students of all backgrounds can establish and build mutually supportive professional relationships.

Cornell Law Public Sector Alumni Network (PSAN)

Purpose

Since its founding in 1887, Cornell Law School has fostered a commitment to public service.  Scores of our graduates have emerged as leaders in social justice movements, legal aid, the judiciary, and government practice.  The Cornell Law Public Sector Alumni Network (PSAN) is dedicated to assisting current students and alumni who seek to incorporate public service into their legal careers.  Whether a student seeking a summer job, a pro bono opportunity, an externship during the academic year, or an entry-level position after graduation, or an alumnus ready to take a different path toward Public Service work, or currently serving in a Public Service position and seeking networking opportunities, the PSAN can assist by:

  • fostering engagement and networking opportunities
  • mentoring Cornell Law School students
  • being a resource to Cornell Law School alumni who are seeking a career path into public service work.
  • promoting fundraising efforts for the Law School that will impact the work of the Public Interest Office

Membership

Open to all Cornell Law School alumni who work in the Public Service sector or promote and advance public interest causes or initiatives; all alumni of Cornell University who have graduated from an accredited law school and work in the Public Service sector or promote and advance public interest causes or initiatives.
