Attendance Requirements
Tickets will not be required for graduates attending the Law School Convocation. Accordingly, given the capacity at Newman Arena, students may bring as many guests as they wish.
The Law School will follow the same public health requirements for the Convocation Ceremony as Cornell University will use for its Commencement ceremony, in accordance with the guidelines set forth by New York State and the University.
These plans are subject to change if the public health situation warrants. Graduates will receive an email update if there are any changes to Law School plans for Convocation. Up-to-date information on Convocation will also be available on the Law School’s Convocation website.
Do I need to bring anything?
You can bring your phone for pictures. At each graduate’s seat, we will place a program and a bottle of water. Your guests can pick up programs and bottled water upon arrival. Graduates with young children may carry or be accompanied by them across the stage.
When do I show up on Sunday, May 17, 2026, and where do I go?
The Law School Convocation Ceremony starts at 2:00 pm with the processional, so you need to arrive at Bartels Hall, Newman Arena, by 12:30 pm on the day of the ceremony.
What should I wear under my gown?
Typical attire is business casual. It is likely to be warm, so wool is a bad idea, as is wearing a suit jacket under your gown. Also, you cannot participate if you are not in a cap and gown.
Arrival and Lining Up
All graduates should arrive at Newman Arena in Bartels Hall no later than 12:30PM. Graduates will proceed to the Ramin Room to check in (when facing the auditorium, go right and follow signage; the Ramin Room is where the climbing wall is located).
As you enter the Ramin Room, you will see a check-in table for an assigned degree program. Graduates are asked to begin lining up for the processional in the Ramin Room at 1:15 PM sharp.
Please pay attention to the numerical signs displayed and arrange yourselves in the order corresponding to the number on the back of your card. You must keep your card to ensure proper line-up for processing into the Newman Arena and to have your name announced. As a reminder, the line-up begins at 1:15pm.

Dean Ohlin will be standing in the middle of the stage. You will stop momentarily to shake Dean Ohlin’s hand, at which point, GradImages will take your picture. A second picture will take place after you exit the stage
After the handshake, proceed to the far-left side of the stage to a second ramp. Proceed down the ramp and back to your seat.
