Are subscription-based STM journals legally liable for publishing fraudulent research?
Room 184, Myron Taylor Hall
Merriem Matthew
My capstone was about whether academic journals have a duty to provide accurate STM information and whether it is possible to bring a lawsuit against them when they fail to stop fraudulent studies or plagiarized work from being published. I also looked at why science or academic publishers are almost immune to being sued and why only federally funded researchers are liable for falsifying data.

Race-Conscious Politics in Schools:  How the Legal System and Federal Agencies Can Help   Mitigate this Challenge
Room 186, Myron Taylor Hall
Jonathan Briggs
In recent election cycles, debates over race and education have intensified, with critical race theory becoming a polarizing issue exploited by political figures. Some state policies now propose severe restrictions on race-based education, leading to political upheaval over school governance. Federal agencies, guided by the Civil Rights Act of 1965, play a crucial role in providing the legal framework and oversight needed to ensure equitable education, highlighting the need for federal involvement in this contentious area.

10:30 AM – 11:15 AM (Concurrent Sessions)

A Comparative Analysis to Overcoming the Glass Ceiling Effect in Women

Exploring Internet Growth: Intersection between the Internet as a Fundamental Human
Right, Universal Service Funds, and Digital Transformation.
Room 184, Myron Taylor Hall
Jose Otero
Governments recognize two main issues that justify their investment in adopting broadband
services: human rights promotion and digital transformation. The presentation shows how the
traditional government approach to legislation needs to consider the potential link between
these two objectives.

Interview with Mia Shah-Dand: AI Ethics + Corporate Governance
Room 186, Myron Taylor Hall
Martine Guerrier
Insightful interview with Mia Shah-Dand, a renowned expert in AI ethics and corporate
governance. The presentation will explore pressing ethical considerations surrounding AI
technology, including implications of U.S. regulatory efforts and EU AI Act. Don’t miss this

AI Divided Us — Our Shared Humanity Unites Us
Room 184, Myron Taylor Hall
Dr. Joanna Massey
AI has had 30 years to segregate and divided us, and we have lost the art of appreciating each
other’s humanness while disagreeing productively. This inspirational talk empowers audiences
to shed the my-way-or-the-highway grandstanding in business, politics, and at the kitchen table,
and embrace a way of communicating that drives respectful discourse amongst colleagues,
customers and communities. Audiences leave feeling hopeful that they can be part of the
solution that moves business and society forward.
