Earl J. Bennett
Earl J. Bennett LL.B. 1901 established in 1908 “a fund devoted to the collection of all U.S. and territorial session laws in existence.”In 1929, he endowed “the Bennett Collection for its perpetual development.”
Lyman P. Smith
A member of the Law School faculty from 1921 until his sudden death in 1951.
George Judd Tansey
Cornell Class of 1888.The Cornell Law Quarterly of 1926-1927 reported, “The Cornell Club of St. Louis is giving a sum as a nucleus of a George J. Tansey Memorial Fund, the income of which is to be used for the purchase of books or other material for the Library of the Law School. Such a fund is most appropriate as a memorial to Mr. Tansey, who was a great lover of books, and was also deeply interested in the Law School at Cornell” (12 The Cornell Law Quarterly 61).
Charles Edward Van Cleef
An Ithaca doctor, Van Cleef died in 1896 at age 46.His brother, Mynderse, Cornell Class of 1874, has a scholarship in the Law School named for him.
George R. Van Namee
A graduate of Cornell’s College of Law in 1901, LL.B., George R. Van Namee in his professional life was a close associate of New York State Governor Alfred E. Smith, whom he served as secretary while Smith was governor and for some time after he left office.
E. E. Willever
The librarian of the Law Library circa 1920 (appointed in 1911), when Cornell Law School was housed in Boardman Hall (demolished in 1959 to make way for Olin Library, completed in 1961).
