Exam4 EMS Feature Statement

The Exam4 Environmental Monitoring Service (EMS) provides a minimally invasive method of verifying the student identity during an examination.

At the beginning of the exam, the student will be required to take a photograph of their ID and a photograph of their face.  During the exam, EMS will capture photographs of the student at random intervals.  EMS will also capture screenshots at random intervals throughout the examination.

Students are not required to take any additional action during the exam and will not be notified when photographs or screenshots are captured.

EMS is not used for biometric purposes. It is only retained for the purposes of investigating academic integrity violations and only accessed by the Registrar’s Office if there is reason to investigate an academic integrity violation. The EMS data is deleted after one year.
