You will need to create a BOLE Account. Carefully review Rule 520.6 and the information located below before creating a BOLE Account. You will need a valid email address and a valid NCBE Number to create a BOLE Account. After you create your BOLE Account, you may access the Request for Foreign Evaluation Form by logging into your BOLE account in the Applicant Services Portal and scrolling down to the section for Foreign Evaluation Form. Upon submission of the Request for Foreign Evaluation Form, you will be required to submit all of the supporting documentation. See Section VI. Supporting Documentation.
Step Two: Apply to Sit for the Bar Examination
Applicants must apply to sit for the UBE through an online application on the BOLE Portal. After signing into your account with the Board, click the link in the box entitled “New York Bar Examination” in order to register for the UBE. Applicants qualifying to sit for the bar examination under Section 520.6 must file with the NY State Board of Law Examiners a completed Certificate of Law School Attendance Form and official final transcripts no later than June 15, 2025, for the July bar examination. The Registrar’s Office will assist in preparing and submitting documents directly to the Board on behalf of eligible applicants by the stated deadline.
When you register for the New York Bar Exam, the LL.M. Certificate of Attendance form is automatically sent to the Law School Registrar Office, who will verify your information and certify your degree. If any discrepancies are found, the Registrar’s Office will make the necessary corrections. You do not need to submit a paper copy of the Certificate of Attendance for New York. When completing the Certificate of Attendance, be sure to type out the full names of your courses accurately. There are three sections where you must enter your coursework: Refer to page 3 of the NYS Bar Requirements for LLMs memo for a list of qualifying courses.

After Passing the New York Bar Exam
- You have three years from the date you pass the New York Bar Exam to apply for admission. As part of the admission process, the New York State Bar requires completion of the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE), the New York Law Exam (NYLE), certification of the 50-hour pro bono service requirement, and fulfillment of the Skills Competency Requirement outlined in Section 520.18 of the Rules of the Court of Appeals.
- The Dean of Students Office recommends LL.M. student do not take the November MPRE exam during their LL.M. year due to the proximity of Fall exams.
- Foreign-educated applicants who are required to complete an LL.M. at an ABA-approved law school and pass the bar exam may satisfy the Skills Competency Requirement by submitting documentation for either Pathway 4 (Apprenticeship) or Pathway 5 (Practice in another jurisdiction). These options allow LL.M. graduates to demonstrate practical legal experience in lieu of coursework-based skills training. Additional information is available Here
